Adrian Hudson (b. 1987) is a self-taught portrait artist based in Malta.

During the pandemic, Hudson picked up a pencil after sixteen years and reconnected with a childhood passion. In 2022, he discovered soft pastels and fell in love with its immediacy of touch and the way colour and light can blend under touch. Since then, he has dedicated himself entirely to pastel portraiture.

Through his focus on portraiture, Hudson searches for the emotion, the quiet strength and vulnerability that live within every human face. The expressions vary from despair to hope, from sorrow to grace, from painful moments to joyful ones — emotions that make us human. By using the language of chiaroscuro, the dialogue between light and darkness, Hudson aims to reveal what lies beneath the surface, not just what is seen, but what is felt: the truth that lingers behind the eyes and the silence that reveals who we really are.

Hudson’s portraits have been shown in several collective and national exhibitions in Malta, while he continues to develop a body of work that explores the relationship between light, silence, and humanity. Every new piece is a quiet conversation, between shadow and grace, between fragility and strength.
